Flex 3 and AIR are getting close to launch and in preparation, the Adobe Platform Evangelist team is traveling to select cities to show off the great new features and some brand new demos.
Flex 3 is a feature-packed release, adding new UI components like the Advanced DataGrid and improved CSS capabilities; powerful tooling additions like refactoring; and extensive testing tools including memory and performance profiling, plus the addition of the automated testing framework to Flex Builder.
Adobe AIR is bringing rich applications to the desktop, enabling access to the local file system, system tray, notifications and much more. Now you can write desktop applications using the same skills that you've been already using to create great webapps including both Flex and AJAX.
Don't miss out on the opportunity to see and hear about this highly anticipated release of Flex 3 and AIR during this special pre-release tour. Plus, in addition to giving away some one of a kind Flex/AIRbranded schwag, we will also be raffling off a copy of Flex Builder 3 Professional (pending availability) and a full commercial copy of CS3 Web Premium at this event!
The Flex 3 and AIR pre-release tour will be coming to Los Angeles on January 23, 2008 from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM at Yahoo! Los Angeles, CA. Hosted by the Los Angeles Adobe Flex User Group.
Here are some links to various topics that were discussed during the last OCFlex meeting surrounding the topic of Adobe AIR. It was a great turnout once again. Thanks to Evan Gifford for a great presentation. We should have his sample files up soon.
Someone asked if we could post the link to the resources that were shown at the first meeting. .
We settled on a location for the next OCFlex meeting. 'Bout time, right? Here's the finalized info:
Topic: Adobe AIR Speaker: Evan Gifford Date: December 6, 2007 Time: 7pm Place: ASFusion Office 5 Park Plaza, Suite 200 Irvine, CA 92614
A couple of notes about getting there:
The main building door is closed after hours. There will be somebody there to open it for you, but if you are late, please call 949-474-1763 so that somebody can come down and open it.
There is a special elevator that goes only to the second floor. You need to take that one. It is on the right if you come from the back door, on the left if you come from the front.
You can park on the back of the building. There is no parking fee after hours.
For the next OCFlex meeting on December 6th we'll have one of our own members, Evan Gifford, speak about . He'll be giving an overview of AIR, talking about it's capabilities and walking through some examples.

He is the guy who started the “community supported cairngorm goodness“ found at , wrote the first true “TreeGrid†component for Flex and received an honorable mention at for a Flex/AIR/LiveCycle project at Verizon Wireless.
If you are at all interested in learning more about Adobe AIR, this next meeting should not be missed. We'll post location info next week.
OCFlex Meeting Topic: Adobe AIR Date: December 6, 2007 Time: 7pm Location: TBD
The first meeting of the Orange County Flex User Group was a success! We had a great turnout of around 30 people. We hadn't anticipated that many people showing up so things were a little cozy in the space we were in. The meeting was all about introductions. We introduced each other, the user group's goals, and Flex.
It was great seeing all the people who turned out and learning about the different backgrounds people were coming from. It was a mix of people from Flash, ColdFusion, Flex, AIR, .Net and more. Also, there was a variety of skill levels.
Thanks again to all who could make it and for the feedback we got. If you'd like to leave additional feedback, you can leave a comment on this post or contact us via the "Join" page. We recorded the meeting and hope to have that video up online for people to check out. Until then, you can the abridged version of the slide deck we used in PDF form or .
Thanks to for making his slides available. We used the content from his slides as part of our "Introduction to Flex" slides.
Note: The links in the online version are not active, but in the PDF they are.
There was an overwhelming response for our next meeting to be about Adobe AIR. We're going to focus on putting something together for that for next month's topic. We'll keep the blog updated with more information as it becomes available.
